Hospitality insurance. Take care of what welcomes guests.

Thoughtful coverage reviews for hotels, inns, restaurants and event venues in San Diego County, North County and across California.

The guest experience depends on more than the front desk.

Hospitality businesses bring people, buildings, food, employees and outside vendors together every day. Insurance Steel Brokers helps California operators review the exposures behind that experience, from a boutique hotel in Carlsbad to a North County event venue or a San Diego restaurant with catering service.

Hospitality insurance is not one universal policy. A lodging property with a pool, a small inn without food service and a banquet venue serving alcohol need different questions. We start with your business model, ownership, contracts and guest amenities, then discuss available coverage subject to underwriting.

Our Carlsbad team serves San Diego County, including Oceanside, Encinitas, Vista, San Marcos and Escondido, as well as businesses elsewhere in California. These are service areas—not claims of additional offices or guaranteed market access for every operation.

Connect the property, the people and the recovery plan.

Property and business income

Review buildings, improvements, furnishings, equipment and inventory alongside covered loss triggers, restoration periods, waiting periods and extra expense.

Guest and premises liability

Discuss guest injury and property-damage allegations, premises conditions, security and policy exclusions. Pools, spas, fitness rooms and excursions need explicit review.

Employees and workplace exposures

Describe housekeeping, maintenance, kitchen, service, front-desk and driving duties. Payroll and classifications should reflect the actual California operation.

Booking systems and guest information

Review privacy incidents, payment systems, ransomware and cyber interruption. Ordinary property coverage does not automatically cover a booking-platform outage.

Shuttles, deliveries and valet arrangements

Explain vehicle ownership, drivers, hired or non-owned use and valet contracts. Customer vehicles in your care may require a separate garagekeepers review.

Employment practices

Discuss allegations involving hiring, dismissal, discrimination or harassment, along with available third-party coverage and exclusions.

Hotels, motels, inns and boutique lodging.

Share room count, construction, renovation plans, occupancy patterns, ownership and management arrangements. Buildings, tenant improvements and guests’ property create different valuation and responsibility questions. A property manager’s policy does not automatically replace an owner’s or operator’s coverage.

Disclose pools, hot tubs, spas, fitness areas, balconies, beach access, pet policies and any activities arranged for guests. Discuss guest-property losses, security-related allegations, bedbug exclusions and abuse or molestation exposures where relevant. Their mention here is a prompt for review, not a promise of inclusion.

Restaurants, bars, catering and alcohol service.

Describe cooking methods, suppression and refrigeration equipment, food and alcohol sales, service hours, entertainment and off-site work. Property damage, spoilage, equipment breakdown and lost income are related but separate coverage questions.

Liquor liability depends on how alcohol is sold or served and the actual policy form. Do not assume host liquor protection fits a bar or other commercial service operation. Discuss server practices, security, assault-and-battery provisions and available excess limits, all subject to underwriting.

Event venues and banquet operations.

An annual venue policy and an organizer’s special event policy serve different roles. Share rental agreements, who controls the premises, alcohol responsibilities, outside caterers and entertainers, attendance and the insurance required from each vendor.

Weddings, fundraisers, conferences and festivals can change a venue’s operating picture. Discuss temporary structures, dance floors, staging and any higher-risk attractions before accepting a booking. Additional insured status must be supported by the policy or endorsement, not just a certificate.

Special events insurance

Review one-day, multi-day and annual event options, all subject to underwriting.

Plan for interruption—not only repairs.

If a covered loss closes guest rooms, the kitchen or a key amenity, how long could restoration realistically take? Bring seasonal revenue, continuing expenses, staffing commitments and equipment lead times to the discussion.

Business income usually depends on a defined coverage trigger. A tourism slowdown, online travel platform problem, utility failure or nearby incident is not automatically covered. Review civil authority, dependent properties, utility services, equipment breakdown and cyber interruption only as offered by the proposed policies.

Contracts and changing operations deserve another look.

Ownership changes, remodeling, new entertainment, a rooftop bar or a new shuttle can change the risk an insurer agreed to cover. Review leases, franchise or management agreements and lender requirements alongside current policies before making assumptions.

Tell us about flood and earthquake exposures, coastal conditions, wildfire concerns and prior losses. Separate policies or endorsements may be needed, and market availability can vary. No review or quote request establishes coverage; obtain written confirmation before relying on it.

Questions worth asking.

Is hospitality insurance a single policy?
No. It describes a coordinated review for guest-facing businesses. Depending on the operation and underwriting, protection may involve property, liability, workers’ compensation, liquor, cyber and other policies or endorsements.
Can you help hotels and event venues as well as restaurants?
Yes. We review lodging, restaurant, catering and venue exposures with the details of each operation. Eligibility and available terms are subject to underwriting; no particular hotel, amenity or activity is automatically accepted.
Does a venue’s policy cover the event organizer?
Not necessarily. The venue and organizer can have separate responsibilities. Review named insureds, additional insured endorsements, contracts and exclusions rather than relying on someone else’s certificate.
Does business income insurance cover every lost booking?
No. Coverage depends on the policy’s trigger, waiting period, restoration period, limits and exclusions. Reduced demand or a cancellation without a covered cause of loss is not automatically insured.
Do you work with hospitality businesses throughout California?
Yes. From our Carlsbad office we serve San Diego County, North County San Diego and California businesses. Share every location and operation so the review reflects the full business.
